PELUM and its partners hold the 2022 ASACC Media Awards
The 2022 Agroecology, Social Accountability and Climate Change(ASACC) Media awards is on today at the Quorum in Lusaka. Organised by a consortium of civil society organisations championing agroecology and sustainable use of natural resources, the media wards has seen journalist from Online, Radio TV and Newspaper media organisations participate and win awards.
Gracing the occasion, Information and media permanent secretary Kennedy Kalunga called on the scribes to be more vigilant in dissemination of information on sustainable use of the environment in the wake of climate change.
In 2017, PELUM initiated, in collaboration with other civil society organizations, the Zambia Agroecology, Climate Change and Social Accountability Media Awards. The goal was to stimulate media interest in pursuing and publishing stories on agroecology and sustainable land use management. These topics historically had gained little exposure on media platforms.
Leading civil society organisations, including the Zambia Alliance for Agroecology and Biodiversity (ZAAB), Caritas Zambia, Action Aid, Zambia Climate and FIAN International, have joined forces to hold the awards on an annual basis to encourage reporting on agroecology, environmental issues, social accountability and climate change.
